The Salty Reykjanes tour begins at 8:30.
The Reykjanes peninsula offers scenery as spectacular as anywhere in Iceland. A brief drive from Reykjavik brings you to dramatic Lake Kleifarvatn with its bubbling hot springs and colorful solfataras hot spring of Seltun, Krysuvik. You will cross dramatic lava flows along the Krysuvik Coast going to the south shore fishing village of Grindavík– of Blue lagoon fame and the Saltfish Museum of Iceland.
After lunch and a 40 minutes stop, we will visit a Shark curing shack and enjoy the aroma and taste of Shark and icelandic Brennivin schnapps. We continue further west to the Reykjanesviti Light House, migratory birding cliffs, have a walk across Icelands Bridge Between 2 Continents traversing the Mid Atlantic Ridge. The only Viking ship in Iceland, Íslendingur in Keflavík, will welcome you aboard before we hold on to the last stop on the tour, the unique Blue Lagoon spa. On our way to the Blue lagoon we will take a brief look in to one of a hundred lava tube/ cave. Bathing in Blue lagoons warm and healing geothermal seawater is an energizing experience.
At the Blue lagoon you can decide how long you want to stay in the bath and other facility or go directly to Reykjavik by the schedule bus.
Itinerary.
The first stop on the tour is at the breathtaking Lake Kleifarvatn and colorful hot spring area of Seltún, Krýsuvík for about 20 minutes.
As we follow the thrilling lava covered south shore to west our next stop will be at the Salted Cod exhibition of Iceland in the fishing village Grindavik at 11:30. We go around the working harbor and learn about Icelanders life at sea. We will stop for about 1 hour and 30 minutes for a visit to the Museum and a lunch or a walk on the harbor
After lunch we will take look at a Shark shack and taste a fermented Shark and the Icelandic Brennivin, "Black Death" liquor. We will stop for 20 minutes at the Lighthouse and the birding cliffs at Reykjanestoe.
Our next stop is the Bridge between 2 Continents where you can walk from Europe to America and get the feeling for the action of the tectonic plates. That action is mainly the reason for all the eruptions and the existence of Iceland.
The only Viking ship in Iceland, Íslendingur is kept at Viking world, a Viking museum in the town of Keflavik. Íslendingur sailed to America in the year 2000 to celebrate the 1000 year anniversary since Leifur Eiriksson discovered America. Viking world is also a home of the Smithsonian exhibition The North Atlantic Viking Saga and we will stop there for 40 minutes.
On our way to the Blue lagoon we will take a look into a Lava tube that was created in last Lava flow in 1236. The tour ends at the Blue lagoon at 4:00 PM (16:00)
Note: The admission ticket to the Blue lagoon is sold separately as we arrive there. Most visitors are enthusiastic to enjoy the bath at the Blue lagoon but some people just wants to take a look around and enjoy the view. There are several schedule buses that leave at about every hour that you can choose from and they will take you back to your hotel.
